History of Lottery Fundraising

Several colonial powers in the French and Indian War also used lotteries to raise money for their troops.
As the lottery became more popular, it caused a battle between the church and the monarchy. Some bishops criticized lotteries as being an exploitative tax on the poor, but others believed that it was a legitimate way to raise money for charity. Currently, there are 45 states in the US that organize lotteries. In addition, the federal government has jurisdiction over lottery laws.
The lottery industry is expected to grow by 9.1% from 2018 to 2026, with the US market expected to reach over $82 billion in sales. As the industry continues to expand, there is more emphasis on modern lottery solutions that offer safe and secure payments, and a safe environment for lottery players.
